“It’s not too often that I read middle grade books, but when I do, I like the ones that are whimsical or those that can tug my heartstrings.
In Galactic Fun Park, the main characters are the animals that live in the theme park. There are the cats, raccoons, squirrels, rats, and even roaches! The animals have their own territories throughout the park, and a designated leader of the respective pack. They were all happily living and minding their own businesses when an exterminator was called by the park management to control the overflow of the critters. Now the aninals must learn to defend not only their own kind, but to let go of their pride and fight together if they want to continue to live in their homes and coexist with the amusement park’s visitors.
It was a delight reading this adventurous story with a unique setting. We usually read about animals either in the forest or farm, rarely in a theme park. I like that even the dreaded roaches and rats were portrayed in a heroic and lovable manner here. Learning about how the animals survive and forage for food while enjoying the perks of living in a theme park was so interesting. My favorite characters were Bandit Queen (a racoon) and Grand Jeffery (a roach). Love the friendship between the 2! I also like the overall message that this story sends out. Adult and middle graders will definitely get a kick out of this book. I would surely read the next one in the series!”
